Celebrating 5 Years of Scale Space: Igniting UK Innovation
In just a few short years, Scale Space White City has grown into one of the UK’s leading hubs for innovation, powered by a world-class community of innovators. Last month, the Scale Space team celebrated the fifth birthday of this unique ecosystem, alongside over of its 400 members. Here we look at how Scale Space White City has evolved into a place where ideas thrive, businesses grow, and whose exceptional community of innovators and entrepreneurs continues to push the boundaries of what’s possible.
This year marks a major milestone for White City Innovation District’s Scale Space, the award-winning innovation hub that has become home to over 60 of the UK’s most dynamic digital tech and life science businesses. Since its founding a little over five years ago, Scale Space has redefined what it means to support high-growth ventures — offering not just workspace, but a thriving ecosystem designed to help trailblazing companies. Its mission is simple but ambitious: to unlock the potential of UK innovation by helping businesses scale.
At the heart of Scale Space is its flagship campus in White City — a purpose-built space offering flexible, high-spec offices and co-working labs designed to grow with ambitious teams, and augmented by a full suite of amenities, high-profile events, plus learning and development opportunities. The goal is to remove the most common scaling barriers for early-stage companies — including access to funding, leadership support, and talent — and to help accelerate teams’ growth within a structured, supportive and inspiring environment.
While many co-working spaces offer desks and meeting rooms, Scale Space provides something far more valuable: a complete scale-up ecosystem. Its deep integration with Imperial College London gives members access to world-class research, lab facilities, and an unmatched pipeline of student talent. Crucially, Blenheim Chalcot’s venture-building expertise also offers proven insights into sustainable growth. The campus design philosophy encourages collaboration, with labs and offices co-located to spark innovation. Unique amenities such as a dedicated sports pitch, fully-equipped recording studio and versatile event spaces support both professional development and wellbeing — ensuring that teams grow not just in size, but in capability and culture.
But what truly sets Scale Space apart is its community: a curated network of founders, academics, investors, and corporate innovators working across frontier sectors, from fintech and biotech to AI, who all share a common goal — to build the businesses of tomorrow.
Over the past five years, Scale Space has hosted more than 120 community and social events, welcoming over 4,000 attendees, and each year connects more than 350 Imperial students with career opportunities through its popular annual Careers Fair. Earlier this year, the Scale Space team launched its own magazine, “@Scale,” and recently introduced new value-add initiatives such as monthly networking breakfasts, an upcoming AI Lightning Talks series, plus an outdoor food service known as “The Shed”.
Under the leadership of new CEO Bernadette Rogner, who joined the team in January, these and more enhancements reflect Scale Space’s strong commitment to creating a vibrant, supportive environment where businesses can truly thrive.

Milestone Moments
Scale Space’s journey has been marked by a series of impressive achievements. Following successful completion of three building phases, the White City campus now features five premium event spaces and two floors of fully-fitted, state-of-the-art labs. In terms of uptake, the White City site counts a high point of 99% occupancy as one its key successes — a testament to the demand for its unique model.
Since its opening, Scale Space has hosted global business leaders, ministerial delegations and industry pioneers and, in March this year, was honoured to welcome His Royal Highness The Prince of Wales for a very special visit. The Prince toured the campus and met with Mental Health Innovations and The Mix Charity, alongside their Youth Advisory Board, to discover more about their impactful work around mental health and innovation.
This high-profile visibility and momentum has certainly helped to position Scale Space as a standout player in its field. The organisation has twice won ‘Incubator/Co-working Space of the Year’ at the West London Business Awards, recognised for its partnership with Imperial White City Incubator.
“Scale Space is where our innovation ecosystem comes to life, and Blenheim Chalcot’s partnership with Imperial College London is central to that mission. Together, we’ve built a thriving environment where ambitious startup and scaleup businesses flourish alongside world-class research and talent, and where entrepreneurs work at the forefront of AI, deep tech, and machine learning.”
